Odor pollution from refinery SDP is one of the focuses of refinery personnel, habitants near refinery and the environmental protection departments. The odor pollutants released by SDP are ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, organic sulfide, volatile hydrocarbons and etc. These substances have low odor threshold and cause great harm to people’s health. Their discharging is strictly limited according to GB 14554-93 (Discharging standard for odor pollutants) and GB16297-1996.
FRIPP has been engaged in the study and treatment of odor pollution. It has cooperated with several companies and successively carried out Pilot scale catalytic combustion test for odorous gases from oil separator under 40000h－1 and temperature 250℃. The removal of total hydrocarbon can be over 97% and the purified gases meet the GB16297-1996 and with no unpleasant odor. Pilot scale activated carbon adsorption test for odorous gases from surface aeration pool under LHSV 1500h－1(desulfurizing bed) for 100 days. The removal of the major pollutant, methyl mercaptan remained at 98%～100%. Under on-site conditions, the maximal sulfur containing capacity can be 2%～3%（W）.
Bench scale bio-packing column sweetening test for odorous gases from blow aeration pool. Over 80% of benzene series compounds and organic sulfur compounds and over 98% hydrogen sulfide can be removed.
At present, a commercial catalytic combustion test for odorous gases from oil separator is being carried out in a refinery and a pilot scale bio-sweetening test for treating odorous gases from aeration pool is also under way.
