In 1981, the ICCAS was appointed as one of the first group of institutions to grant master’s and doctor’s degrees to students in physical chemistry, polymer chemistry and physics, organic chemistry, and analytical chemistry. In 1985, it established the first three postdoctoral mobile stations in physical chemistry, polymer chemistry and physics, and organic chemistry. In 1993, polymeric material science was ratified as a new program in which the ICCAS students can get a master’s degree of engineering. In 1994, the ICCAS became one of the 17 trial-units which could appoint supervisors of Ph.D. candidates on its own. In 1997, it was selected as a key training base in CAS for Ph.D. candidates.
At the ICCAS, the A program for enrollment is chemistry. The B programs include analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, and polymer chemistry and physics. The major research fields consist of chemical reaction dynamics and structural chemistry, chemistry of molecular aggregates, synthesis and preparation science, high-tech materials, nanoscience and technology, chemical biology and theoretical chemistry.
The ICCAS has a strong research team, which is composed of 9 academicians, 71 Ph.D. supervisors, 14 affiliate professors (specially appointed research fellows), and among them 50 are 45 years old or younger. At present, the research work of many young researchers who came back to China as part of the CAS “Hundreds of Talents Program” is well under way.
The ICCAS is well equipped with advanced instruments and research facilities, among which are 134 analytical instruments valued at more than 100 thousand yuan apiece.
The library of the ICCAS, which covers an area of 800 square meters, boasts an abundance of materials. In 2002, it became the first branch of the CAS Library.
The ICCAS has been actively engaged in international and domestic scientific and academic collaborations. It has established collaborations and exchange programs with more than 30 countries and regions all over the world. |
