Creating new optical lapping and polishing techniques, and fabricating optical substrate with super smooth surfaces. Through the refinement optical coating techniques to obtain optical components that can satisfy the requirements of high energy lasers. This includes manufacturing high precision optical substrates with different types of optical material that can be used in applications of high reflecting coating, anti-reflecting coating, and interfering filter.
The COIL equipments Prof. Sun Long was involved in designing and making has had many results certified by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It won Second Prize at National Scientific Advancement Awards, and an Extraordinary Prize at Sciences Technology Advancement Awards of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. |

Graduated with a bachelor degree in laser technologies from Harbin Technical University in 1982. His research work included HF Chemical Lasers, TEA CO2, and Oxygen Iodine Chemical Lasers (COIL.). Presently his main research encompasses COIL optical component creation, involving fields of optical fabrication and optical coating. In 2003 Sun Long was hired as Professor Status high level engineer by Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
