Chemical contaminants in natural waters and water processing undergo chemical and biochemical processes such as transformation, degradation, association or aggregation, adsorption, excretion and assimilation. Toxicity and toxicology of the contaminants or their intermediates depend heavily on these processes, which determine the quality of water. Research on the chemical forms of contaminants in aquatic environments and the toxicology associated with different chemical form is therefore the basis of ecological risk assessment of chemicals. Recent work include the development of innovative methods for chemical speciation and of bioassay, the case studies to elucidate relationship between abiotic process in aquatic multimedia and toxicity variations, as well as development of new approach for the application in the field of ecological risk assessment.
